Submission of Documents

Along with the online application, candidates must submit the Statement of Purpose (SoP) for research, outlining their intended area of research and future goals. Here is a link to submit all documents along with the application form.

Screening

Applications are assessed based on the Statement of Purpose (SoP) and eligibility criteria. Shortlisted candidates are then invited for an interview as part of the selection process.

Interview by Expert Panel

- Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview conducted by a panel of subject experts, Professors, and the research committee concerned department/school approved by the Vice-Chancellor.
- The panel assesses the candidate’s research aptitude, academic background, and potential fit for the programme.

Registration

- Candidates must accept the offer and proceed with registration.
- They are required to submit original documents (such as PG degree, NET/SLET/CSIR scores, identification proof, etc.) for verification.

Fee Submission

- Upon successful document verification, candidates are required to submit the semester fee as per the university’s fee structure within 15 days of receiving the admission offer.
- Rs. 50,000/-per semester (total 6 semesters for a 3-year PhD programme) is the fee for the years 2026 and 2027.

Confirmation of Admission

- After fee submission and final verification, the candidate’s admission is confirmed, and they are officially enrolled in the PhD programme and proceed for pre-PhD course work (6 months).

ADMISSION OPEN FOR 2026 INTAKE
 

Degree eligibility - any degree as specified in UGC norms under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956 with provisions as under,   

  • 3+2 years or 4+1 degree completion process for Master’s degree or equivalent in Management, Economics, Commerce or allied disciplines with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA, approved by UGC or Councils under ministry of education, government of India.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree and professional qualifications such as CA, CS, CMA with relevant academic record may also apply with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 75% marks or equivalent grade point average. Those in the final year of their engineering degree may also apply.
  • As per provisions of University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022. 



  • Coursework - 1 year
  • Research phase - 2 years

  • For PhD Part time/ Executive programme, it is required to have 10 years of full-time relevant work experience in corporate, government, academics or any other domain.

  • Full-time Residential Fellowship for selected candidates fulfilling criteria
  • Research facilities/library/labs.
  • Evaluation of research proposal and academic profile: The applicant needs to complete the PhD application form. The form must be accompanied by a research proposal of 1000-1500 words expressing a problem statement and method to address it.
  • Personal Interview focusing on research inclination, domain knowledge, and alignment with faculty expertise.
  • UGC-NET/JRF qualification. (score valid for one year)
  • UGC approved national level tests (CAT/XAT/GMAT/MAT) (score valid for one year)

FAQs for PhD Program

IILM University offers a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme across four Schools:


  • - School of Management
  • School of Liberal Arts
  • School of Law
  • School of Engineering


The programme is designed to promote rigorous, ethical, and interdisciplinary research aligned with contemporary academic, industry, and policy challenges.

The University offers three modes:


  • - Full-Time (Residential Fellowship)
  • Full-Time/Part-Time (Non-Residential)
  • Executive PhD (for working professionals)


All modes follow the same academic standards and evaluation framework, as prescribed by UGC regulations.


  • - Minimum duration: 3 years
  • - Maximum duration: 6 years (including approved extensions)


Coursework is typically completed within 12 months, followed by comprehensive research, publications, and thesis work.

Eligibility is as per UGC (2022) Regulations, including:


  • - Master’s degree with minimum 55% marks or equivalent CGPA
  • - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with minimum 75% marks
  • - Professional qualifications such as CA/CS/CMA with relevant academic background
  • - 10 years of work experience is mandatory for Part-Time / Executive PhD applicants

Yes. Applicants must qualify through any one of the following:


  • - UGC-NET / JRF
  • National-level tests (CAT, XAT, GMAT, MAT – valid for one year)
  • IILM Doctoral Aptitude Test (IILM-DAT) (if do not have any score mentioned above)


Shortlisted candidates also undergo a research proposal evaluation and personal interview.

The coursework focuses on building strong research foundations and includes:


  • - Philosophy of Research
  • - Quantitative & Qualitative Research Methods
  • - Research Writing & Publication Ethics
  • - Case Writing and Theory Building
  • - Area-specific doctoral courses
  • - Research workshops and seminars


Candidates without an MBA or equivalent may be required to complete foundation management courses.

The CRA evaluates a scholar’s readiness for independent doctoral research. It includes:


  • - Seminar on research problem identification
  • - Seminar on chosen research methodology


Successful completion of CRA is mandatory to proceed to thesis work.

Each scholar works under a Research Advisory Committee (RAC) consisting of:


  • - One internal supervisor (Chair)
  • - At least one external national or international expert


The RAC provides continuous academic guidance, monitors progress, and supports publication efforts.

Yes. Scholars must publish at least two quality research outputs:


  • - Peer-reviewed journal articles (Scopus / Web of Science indexed)


Publications must be completed before final thesis submission.

Scholars submit Quarterly Thesis Progress Reports (TPR).


Regular review presentations ensure:

  • - Alignment with global academic standards


Unsatisfactory progress may attract formal review or corrective measures.

IILM follows a zero-tolerance policy towards plagiarism and AI-generated content:


  • - Similarity index must be below prescribed limits

  • All theses are screened using Turnitin and aligned with UGC norms


The thesis is evaluated by:


  • - Two external examiners (at least one international)
  • - Followed by a viva-voce (oral defense)

Yes. Residential Fellowship support is available exclusively for PhD scholars admitted to the School of Management at IILM University, Gurugram.


The PhD (Full-Time – Residential Fellowship) in the School of Management is designed to support high-potential scholars who are committed to full-time doctoral research. Fellowship recipients are expected to actively engage in research, coursework, seminars, teaching assistance, and other academic responsibilities as part of the University’s research ecosystem.


At present, PhD scholars enrolled in the School of Liberal Arts, School of Law, and School of Engineering are not covered under the Residential Fellowship scheme. However, scholars in these Schools receive full academic support, including access to research supervision, doctoral coursework, research infrastructure, databases, workshops, and publication guidance, in line with UGC regulations.
