Program Overview

The 3-year program in English Hons. is the preferred destination for students who wish to understand the English language as a dynamic, global phenomenon through modules that blend the study of classic texts and literary traditions with current theoretical models in a unique way. From classical to contemporary literature, from poetry to drama, students will examine key aspects of culture and society, and develop their communication and critical thinking abilities as well. The curriculum in its three-year span comprises courses on Literature, Culture, Gender, Ecology, Cinema, Linguistics, History, Writing, Indian Epics, Urban Spaces, and much more.
With a committed faculty, the program brings in robust pedagogical practices, coupled with empathy towards student needs and intelligibility. Teaching includes interactive lectures, workshops, seminars, small group and individual tutorials, student-led reading groups and self-directed study. Classes are designed to facilitate autonomous learning, during which the student will have the opportunity for critical self-reflection or space for self-directed reading or research. We encourage experiential learning through blended ways like various online learning activities such as blog, vlog, forum, etc., this helps students to develop skills in writing, communication, IT and online collaboration. Our regular teaching program is enhanced by external speakers and field trips which bring subjects to life. We follow flexible and innovative ways of assessment, which include dissertation, essays, portfolios, presentations, take-home exams, reflective exercises, and creative projects.
